Social media is growing continuously in the world. Almost everyone in the world used social media to communicate with friends. Due to the increase in the use of mobile phones, social media sites like Facebook are widely used. Nowadays, people also used these social media sites for marketing.  Here I am describing the top 10 social media sites list according to their monthly active users.

1. Facebook

Facebook, one of the largest social media sites, Is founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. With almost 2.7 billion users Facebook is one of the most widely used social media sites.  Besides connecting with friends and family, Facebook is also used for business purposes, such as promoting brands and products by using Facebook ads. The revenue of Facebook in 2020 is almost 86 billion dollars and its active users are utmost 1.59 billion. 

Recently Facebook has lost trust by sharing the users' personal information with others. Many people move towards other social media sites but still, Facebook has mentioned its position.

2. YouTube

YouTube is the second-largest social media site with its 2 billion active users. It was founded by Jawed Karim,  Steve Chen, and Chad Hurley. It covers all the girls such as Beauty, Education, Gaming, etc. It is also used as an investment site in which videos are used for marketing. In 2020 revenue of Youtube is almost 19.8 billion dollars.

3. WhatsApp

With 2 billion users WhatsApp is the third-largest social media platform. It was launched by Brian Acton and Jan Koum in 2009. It gains the attention of billion users due to its ability to connect the people. The WhatsApp call feature makes it a favorite among users. In 2014 it was acquired by Facebook.  Despite collaboration with Facebook, it still has maintained its identity.  In 2020 it has generated almost 5 billion dollars in revenue.

Instagram, the fourth largest social media site,  is launched by Kevin System and Mike Kruger in 2010. Its monthly active users are almost 1.16 billion. Instagram is widely used for photo and video sharing.  Due to its distinctive features, it is commonly used for businesses. It was also acquired by Facebook. Its revenue in 2020 is utmost 6.8 billion dollars. 

5. WeChat

WeChat is similar to WhatsApp and it is the fifth-largest social media site. It was developed by Tencent in China.  It is used for messaging and calling. The number of active users of WeChat is continuously increasing.

6. Reddit

Reddit is the sixth-largest social media site.  It was launched by Steve Huffman,  Alexis Organisms, and Aaron Swartz in 2005. With its 430 million monthly active users it is considered one of the most visited sites. It has communities that are dedicated to every topic. It is the best platform for finding the niches where potential customers are active. In 202p it generated 212 million dollars. 

7. Snapchat

With 400 million monthly active users,  Snap chat is the seventh-largest social media platform. It was launched by Evan Spiegal and Bobby Murphy in 2011. It is most common in teenagers. It is used to connect with friends by using pictures and videos.  Also, its distinctive filters make it widely used among youngsters.  Its revenue in 2020 is almost 91 million dollars.

Twitter, right largest social media platform,  was launched by Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams in 2006. Its monthly active users are almost 353 million.  It is widely used among politicians. Twitter can convey the message to the world. It is also used for the marketing of the business. In 2020 its revenue is almost 3.72 billion dollars.

9. LinkedIn

With 310 million users, LinkedIn is the ninth largest social media site.  It was launched by Reid Hoffman and Allen Blue in 2003. It is widely used among professionals. It is used mostly for product stocking or finding the best partner for the business. In 2020 it has generated almost 8.05 billion dollar revenue.

10. Skype

Skype, the tenth-largest social media site, is owned by Microsoft. Its monthly active users are almost 300 million. It can connect people through video calls,  voice calls, and messages. Its feature of conference call makes widely used among people. Skype to Skype calls are free and used to communicate with everyone in the world.
